Trike-About 2011
August 12, 13, 14
Wichita
Our second annual Open Prairie Trikers Trike-About was a huge success! The weather cooperated and it was a beautiful day to be riding
the roads from town to town. Our attendance numbers were down from last year but from all reports, everyone had a great time. We started
Friday evening with a sandwich supper for our out of town guests. Good friends, good conversation, lots of laughs and of course, good food
was provided by our OPT members. Saturday morning, we met at Spangles on 61st Street North, then rode to Halstead where we had an hour
wait for the parade to begin. Another opportunity to walk around and visit with everyone. Once the parade began we were done in about 15-20
minutes and on our way to Carriage Crossing Restaurant in Yoder. After lunch, we rode back to Wichita and spent a couple hours at Exploration
Place. Some of us did the CSI Experience, some watched a movie and some played miniature golf. We had an hour to kill before we were due
at Whiskey Creek for dinner so Jerry Dunn led us around and around the parks in that part of town. Dinner at Whiskey Creek then back to the park
to The Keeper of The Plains to wind up the evening. The Keeper is impressive and all around the base is a narrative of the Indian History for our
area. At 9 pm there are 6 pots at the base that burst into flame for about 15 minutes. Only 3 lit up the night we were there but we got the idea.
We also looked at the Troll that lives in the drain system beneath the city. Going to the Benton Airport for Breakfast was probably the best idea we
had!! The weather couldn't have been better, the food was great, the service was great and everyone enjoyed watching the little planes come and go.
