A beautiful day for riding to El Dorado resulted in a great turnout (35) for today’s meeting. James Smith,
Sergeant At Arms, called the meeting to order and reminded everyone we need to be quiet so everyone can
hear what is being said.
Larry Adams, Interim Director, said he was pleased with the good turnout and started the “pass the hat” to
collect money for the treasury. He introduced David Foster as a new member. Randy Dixson is also new to
our chapter having moved here from Oklahoma. Tom Fisher, Jr, and Larry Mount are thinking about becoming
members. Larry said several of our members, Sonny Suskey, Mike Suskey, Jody Guilford, Georgie and Ray
Miller, Jr. and Deb Hester, all come quite a distance to be a part of our chapter and he is glad they are here.
Wayne Eck, State Director, talked about Jim Woody’s resignation and said it is definite. Jim hadn’t realized the
time involved and has decided it is best for him and his family if he steps down. With that being the case, under
Article 5, the State Director can appoint a Chapter Director and asked for a vote so Larry Adams can finish out
the term in that position. The vote was unanimous.
Wayne talked about the ECK Bar-B-Q and State Meeting in Ottawa on May 21st. He said there will not be a
State Meeting at the Coffeeville 4-Corners Trike-In in June as previously planned. Plans are in the works for the
annual State Trike-In in September in Emporia and he hopes it will be the best ever. He asked Dan Seely, State
Historian, about the first events he could remember taking place in Kansas. Dan believes it was 1991 or 1992
and it would have been the State Trike-In which was arranged by Shelly Androes and it was probably around
Memorial Weekend. She used to go talk to people in old folks homes and celebrated their lives by listening to their
stories. She set up 3 or 4 annual events before she passed away. After that, our chapter started doing a memorial
ride in her honor.
Linda Dunn, Activities Coordinator, talked about the Shelly Androes Memorial Ride on the 26th. Everyone is to
meet at Orchard Park, 9th and Anna, around 6:30 PM. Rides around the park will be given to special needs individuals
from The Ark.
Sonny Suskey talked about the Kansas BTW Website and said he is working on a Kansas Roots Link. He wants facts,
truths, dates, and stories. He said Dan Seely has been very helpful.
Bill Taber, Road Captain, asked if anyone is interested in doing the parade at Benton on the last Saturday of this month.
Several are wanting to do that as it is also the day for garage sales and lots of other fun activities. He will get the
information to Linda so everyone will be informed as to the time to meet for the parade.
Bill Taber talked about giving a ride to a cancer patient a couple of weeks ago. It was arranged through Hospice and he
has since learned there are others who would like a ride. Tish Seely said the people at the Dexter old folks home would
probably like to do that again. The last two years, a few from our group, went to Dexter for their parade and then gave
the rides. Linda Dunn will follow up with these places and asked for suggestions for others.
Jerry Dunn, Treasurer, gave his report. After passing the hat today we have $269.38 in the treasury.
Our next meeting is Saturday, May 14th at 3 PM, Acapulco Mexican Restaurant, 217 W. Broadway, Newton, KS.
