Wayne & Sarah Eck, Roslyn Snyder

James Smith, Sergeant at Arms, called the meeting to order.

Wayne Eck, Director, took the floor and said we had the most impressive turnout for a meeting he’s seen in a long time.
He talked about the history of our chapter.  He said we started 8 years ago and Kenny Flower was the one who came up
with the name, Open Prairie Trikers.  He is also responsible for the art work for our emblem.  Wayne brought the Chapter
Charter which goes to the next director and said that the original was lost and the one he has is a replacement.  He does
have a photocopy of the original which is in the frame with current Charter.  As this passes from one director to the next,
it is signed on the back.

We passed the hat to collect for a donation in memory of Judith Lyon, who passed away in September.  We collected $86.22
which will be sent to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in her name.

We all brought food staples and kitchen items to be given to Keith Flower, who is a life time member.  He is disabled and
his parents , Kenny & Carol Flower, recently bought him a house and we thought a food shower would be appropriate since
he had most everything else he needs.  He was unable to attend the meeting today due to cutting his foot a few days ago
which required stitches.   Carol said they are having an official housewarming party on December 6th.

Sarah Eck announced that she brought three cards for us to sign.  One is for Vicky Chadwell, ECK Chapter, who had a heart
attack yesterday and had stints put in.  One is for Connie Moss, wife of the Nebraska State Director, who had a heart attack
a month ago and is doing well.  The third is for Keith Flower which will go with the food.

Wayne announced that he has arranged for us to go to Prairie Rose for a Gospel Music Show and Dinner on December 12th.
It is $30 per person and those who are interested need to contact Wayne.  He will lock in reservations with his credit card.

We voted for officers for the 2011-2013 term.  Elected was Jim Woody, Director, Larry Adams, Assistant Director,
Linda Dunn Secretary/Activities Coordinator, Jerry Dunn, Treasurer, James Smith, Sergeant at Arms, Bill Tabor and
Dale “Pete” Walter, Road Captains.  Linda Dunn retains the position of Webmaster which is appointed.  These people
will take office beginning January 2011.

Meeting minutes

October 16th

In attendance:  Tom Fisher, Larry Adams, Pete & Kathy Walter, Georgie Miller, Ray Miller, Curt & Teresa Burnam,

Bob & Charolette Primm, Dan Seely, Jim & Sandy Woody, Sarah & Wayne Eck, Bob Richards, Ivan Stout, Penny Hynson,

James & Lynnett Smith, Amanda Armstrong, Linda & Jerry Dunn

James Smith (Sergeant at Arms) called the meeting to order.

Wayne Eck (Director) said that Bob Primm had asked about going to Prairie Rose for a gospel music and dinner show.

We had talked about this earlier this year but never got it scheduled.   Wayne will work with Linda Dunn to get it scheduled,

probably in November.

Wayne talked about the 50-cent dues for voting privileges and said with the chapter elections coming up in November we all

need to be sure we have paid.  This needs to be done before the day of voting.  Also, Wayne will accept proxy votes but this

also has to be done ahead of time.

Nominations for director:  Jim Woody, Dan Seely
Nomnations for assistant director:  Larry Adams, Bob Primm
Nomination for secretary/event coordinator:  Linda Dunn
Nomination for treasurer:  Jerry Dunn
Nomination for sergeant at arms:  James Smith
Nominations for road co-road captains:  Bill Tabor, Pete Walter, Curt Burnam

The webmaster position is appointed and will remain with Linda Dunn.

Sarah Eck made a motion to have co-road captains.  It was seconded, voted on, and passed.

Any other nominations have to be to Wayne by this next Sunday (Oct. 24th)

Wayne said he is looking forward to change with new leadership.  He will get the ballots printed and ready for the next meeting

or for proxy voting.

Wayne talked a little about past events.  He said we normally do not schedule local events the same time as the National Trike

In at Branson.  However, since not everyone goes to National he feels that if those people want to schedule a ride closer to home

they should be able to do that.

Wayne and Sarah Eck and Pete and Kathy Walter went to Coffeyville for Dalton Days a few weeks ago.  They said there was a

lot to do that weekend including celebrating the lives of 4 Coffeyville men who died in the bank robberies.  There were 4 Dalton

gang members who were also killed that day.  There is a mansion in Coffeyville they were able to tour.  It's 3 floors and they found

it fascinating to learn how people lived back then.  Wayne said he loves to go out of town on the trike but understands not everyone

can do this very often because of the expense.

Wayne talked about the Trikeabout weekend and said it was a huge success.  We had at least 78 people participating including

the ones who came from out of town.  To make an event successful, and to be a good host, it takes leadership, organization and

a well planned scheduling of events.  A hotel needs to be found and a group rate negotiated for our out of town people.  A trikabout

is about having a host and a guest.  It can be a very successful small event with only one host and one guest or it can be as large as

the host or hosts are willing to coordinate.  The success of the event depends heavily upon the graciousness of the host or hosts and

how well the event was planned and organized.

Sarah Eck mentioned that Connie Moss, wife of the NE director, recently had a heart attack and is doing fine.  She also said that

Orville Cromm, who used to be the NE director, had been in the hospital and is better now.

Jerry Dunn, Treasurer, gave a financial report including what expenses we have had this past year.  We currently have $243.55.

We passed the hat and collected $47.50 plus $2.50 for voting privileges.  Jerry also suggested we pass the hat next time to take up

a collection to be given to the Cancer Society in memory of Judith Lyon.  He will update the financial report and get it to Wayne soon.

There was no other old or new business.  A motion was made to close the meeting.

Next meeting:  November 14th, 3 PM, New China Buffet, 47th and S. Broadway.

/ld

UPDATE:  The supper and gospel music at the Prairie Rose is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, December 12th, 1 PM.  The doors

open about an hour early so those that come early can take in some of the activities prior to the dinner and show.  The cost is $30

per person for the dinner and show.  I believe that those wanting to attend need to contact them prior and get their tickets purchased.

I personally think their food is very good!  You might want to check out their website; however, the matinee we are scheduled to

attend is not on there.  http://prairierosechuckwagon.com/  .....Wayne Eck

OPT Meeting Minutes

Sunday, March 14, 2010

Two Brothers Bar-B-Q

We met at Two Brothers Bar-B-Q for our monthly meeting.  Good food.  Definitely good company.  Lots of

conversation and laughs during dinner and throughout the meeting.

In attendance:  Junior & Debra Hester, Dale Kitlen, Dan & Tish Seely, Steve & Judy Lyon, Randy Johnson,

Robert & Charolette Primm, James & Lynnett Smith, Leo Foster, Pete & Katy Walter, Dwight Rix,

Penny Hynson, Ivan Stout, Larry Adams, Robert Harris, Gary Harris, Jeff Eck, Jerry & Linda Dunn,

Wayne & Sarah Eck, Roslyn Snyder

James Smith, , called the meeting to order.

Wayne Eck, Chapter Director, said our new season is here and we have several items to talk about. First, he

mentioned we had 5 trikes in the St. Patrick's Day Parade.   It was a very cold day so thank you to the brave

souls who showed up to represent our chapter.

We passed the hat and Jerry Dunn, Treasurer, announced we had collected $26.05 bringing us to a total of

$465.24.  Anyone who hasn't paid their $.50 dues should see him after the meeting.  He also said

he is not making the little cards for paid membership that he made last time.  If you want a card, similar to a

business card with the logo on one side and place for you to put your contact info on the other side, let him know.

Old Business:  It was asked, at the last meeting, if we could proxy vote for the state elections and the answer

was yes.  There are two types of voting -- proxy or absentee.  Wayne went over the list of those running for

office and Sarah Eck passed out the ballots for those who wanted to vote today.  If you want to go to Emporia

to vote in person, the date is March 21st, at 1 PM.  Sandwich materials will be provided from the state treasury

and everyone is asked to bring a side dish to round out the meal.

Wayne said the annual Shop Day, at his house, is scheduled for May 2nd.  In the past it has been in April but

has typically been too cold to get much accomplished or go for a ride.  The idea is to do light maintenance such

as oil changes, grease jobs, maybe make a flag holder for each trike, etc.  In good humor, Pete Walter suggested

finishing the work on Kathy's new trike and Dwight Rix joked that he would like to do an oil change on his

trike, which is just an engine and transmission at this point -- sitting in Wayne's shop.  It's an all day event

ending with a run to Wichita or somewhere for ice cream.   More information will be available as we get closer

to the date.

Wayne had thought about canceling the last Friday of the month Trike Night for March because Bob Primm

has done an outstanding job organizing Wednesday night dinner out, twice a month.  Wayne got outvoted,

so put Trike Night back on your calendars for March 26th.

On our Calendar for August 15th is a Gospel Music show and dinner at Prairie Rose.  Wayne asked if we

thought that would be a good weekend to host other Chapters that would like to come to our area.  Tornado

Alley, in Hutchinson, for instance, has a growing membership, but not many activities.  Sarah Eck said this

would be a good time to just kick back and relax without any formal duties or responsibilities.  Ideas mentioned

are to ride through old town, look at the troll, the Keeper of The Plains and maybe have a Saturday cookout.

Junior Hester, Region 2, suggested going to West Harvey County Park on Saturday.  A small river runs

through the park so there is fishing.  Also available is overnight camping spots for those who would like to do

that.   We will talk about this in more detail on Shop Day in May.

Junior Hester said we all need to continue checking the by-laws on the National site as they are changing.

The biggest change is anyone under the age of 16 cannot vote.  The other change is that in the sex offender

part, the word "he" has been changed to "themselves" taking into consideration this can happen with men or

women.

The trip to Hutchinson Salt Mines has been changed from April 17th to April 10th.

Tish Seely, Activities Coordinator, announced that Biker Sunday is April 25th, at Hope Church in Andover.  The

event is a hot dog lunch with music.  The time is after the 11 AM church service.  Everyone is encouraged to ride

out and enjoy and if you would like to attend the church service prior to the lunch, you are more than welcome.

Minutes from the February meeting were approved as written.

There is no meeting in April.

Wayne Eck, Director, passed a sympathy card around for everyone to sign.  This will go to Carl Hagebuschwhose wife Cathey

recently passed away after an 8 year battle with ovarian cancer.  Wayne said she was a wonderful, loving, strong person who

loved triking and will be greatly missed.

Wayne talked about the state elections coming up March 23rd.  He introduced Sonny Suskey and Jody Guilford, from SEK.  Sonny

is running for the position os Historian and was asked to say a few words.  Dan Seely has also been on the list to run for this position

but has decided to back down from the running.  Sonny briefly mentioned his ideas for this position -- archiving photos and stories

and articles of interest on the state website.  He added that he feels this is a state affair and he will not contact National.  Ish Deel

has been the Historian for quite some time and is also running for this position again.

Roslyn Snyder Dwight Rix

Jerry Dunn, Treasurer, asked if it had been decided whether we could vote by proxie in the state election.  Junior Hester, Regional

Director, said we can vote by proxie as long as signatures are witnessed.  He said that no one under the age of 16 is allowed to vote

even though they may be members.  This will be made more clear in the by-laws in the near future.    We decided that the next meeting,

March 16th, would be a perfect time to do the proxie vote for those who will not be driving to Emporia to cast their ballot in person.

Wayne will take care of getting these votes to Emporia.

BTW OPT Meeting Minutes

Sunday, 1/10/10

Ryan's Buffet

James Smith, Sergeant of Arms, called the meeting to order.  Wayne Eck, Director, welcomed Ivan Stout, Penny Hynson, and Randy Johnson

to the meeting.  Elroy Kettleman and Joyce Ehmke, from Coffeeville SEK Chapter were also present.   Others in attendance were: Jerry and Linda

Dunn, Lynnett Smith, Kenny and Carol Flower, Dan and Tish Seely, Bob Primm, Bill Taber, Tom Fisher, Larry Adam, Dale and Kathy Walter,

Roslyn Snyder and Sarah Eck.  Wayne said State Elections are coming up on March 23rd.  He said that State is nothing without the trikers so

we all need to do what we can to support them.  At this point the following are running for office:

Director:    Wayne Eck
Co-Director:    Elroy Kettleman
Secretary:    Retta Waite, Cathy Peek
Treasurer:    Debra Hester
Historian:    Ish, Dan Seely, Sonny Suskey
Road Captain:    Tom Wing
Newsletter Editor:    Sarah Eck
Webmaster:    Kathy Walter

If anyone else is interested in running for a position, please let Wayne know.

Trike nights will be the last Friday of each month for January, February and March.  They are at Wayne and Sarah Eck's and everyone is welcome.

Sarah said we will make pizzas this time so everyone is to bring a topping, a side dish or a dessert to round out the meal.  The address is 10329 E.

101st St. North.  Contact Wayne at 316-744-2841 if you have questions.

Tish Seely, Weekend Activities Coordinator, passed out a list of suggested rides/trips and asked us to vote for what we wanted to do.  She has

tentative dates for everything except parade dates, which cannot be changed.  She is taking into consideration parade dates, and local, state, and

national trike-ins and has chosen dates that do not conflict with those.  She will tally the numbers and bring information to the next meeting.  We will

lock in places and dates at that time.  On the list were:

ECK Chapter Picnic June 5th
Road trip to Hays, Atchison or Dodge City and we wrote in a return trip to Abilene.
Hutchinson Salt Mines Museum
Tanganyika Wildlife Park
Coronado Heights Buffalo Ranch
Park City Parade
Dexter Parade
Black Arts Parade
Garage Sales
Haysville Parade
Halstead Parade
Yoder Parade

Bill Taber, Road Captain, suggested combining a trip to Abilene with the Ft. Riley Museum.  He has talked to base officials and can arrange for us to be

met at the gate and escorted to the museum.  He would need names of everyone going and we would have to have ID available.  If we go as a group, no

helmets are required and we would have to stay together while on base.

If there is anything else you want to do let Tish know so she can add it to the list.

Wayne brought up going to Prairie Rose on a Sunday afternoon in August.  The cost would be $30 per person and this covers the chuck wagon dinner

and gospel music show.  Reservations can be changed up to 24 hours in advance.  Following the show, we will go to Dale's and Kathy's house for ice cream.

Bill invited everyone to Cowboy Church on Monday nights at 6:30 at Prairie Rose.  They have guest speakers, the preacher has challenge messages, and

there is music and dinner.  Chicken, sausage and potatoes are always provided and everyone brings a side dish or dessert to share if you want.

Bill has 3 quilts that he bought at Yoder.  He wants to donate them to BTW for auctions.  One will go to State and the other two will be decided later.

Sarah Eck, State Newsletter Editor, asked how many might be going to Branson for the National Trike In in June so she can check on hotel rooms.  She

figured 15 rooms would be needed if we want to stay at the same place.

We passed the hat and Treasurer, Jerry Dunn, reported we started with $400.19 from the last meeting, $14 was dispersed for stamps, we collected $49 in the hat,

bringing us to a total of $435.19.

Bill brought up leaving tips for the wait staff at whichever place we have our meetings.  He said last time he counted a little over $7 total was left on the

tables.  There is one wait staff person who is assigned just to us and $7 isn't enough.  It was suggested that we either leave better tips or we should take money

out of the "pass the hat" to leave a tip.  After discussion and a vote it was determined we need to revisit this at the next meeting in February.

Wayne said that our chapter is growing and the needs are changing.  He proposed that the title of assistant director be changed to co-director.  It was a

unanimous vote to make the change.

Our next meeting is Sunday, February 14, at Ryan's on N. Rock Road, at 3 PM.  We have several things to discuss and vote on so please try to come.

Haven Fall Festival Parade

October 9, 2010

Today, we were scheduled to be in the Haven, KS Fall Festival Parade.  Ten trikes and

20 people participated in a short, but fun parade.  The great weather brought hundreds

of people who lined the streets and were thrilled with Dan Seely's wheelies on the trike.

He can get his trike to stand up on end time and time again.  We threw candy for the

kids which is always a hit and some of us offered curb service to the adults.   After the

parade we rode over to Yoder for lunch at Carriage Crossing, which is always a good

place to go for home cooking.

Shelly Androes Memorial Ride

September 28, 2010

Wichita, KS

Every Spring, our chapter participates in the Shelly Androes Memorial Ride.  We gather at

Orchard Park and give rides to special needs individuals.  This year, Special Olympics was

scheduled at the same time so participation was low.  We repeated this event on Sepember

28th with a huge turnout of trikers, motorcycles from the American Legion, and excited

participants waiting for their turn to take a ride.  Many got back in line again and again

and most rode both a trike and a motorcycle.  The event was very rewarding for all who

came together on a very warm Fall evening in the park.

Open Prairie Trikers

2010 Trikeabout Weekend

Wichita, KS

August 13, 14, 15

In spite of scorching heat, we had a great turnout for our first Open Prairie Trikers Weekend.  We started the event with

a meet and greet at the Park City Express Inn where most of our out of town guests were staying.  The hotel

graciously allowed us to use their breakfast room for our gathering.  Sarah Eck coordinated sandwich makings, chips, fruit,

cookies, ice tea, etc., for us to enjoy while visiting.  Wayne Eck brought maps and the plans for the weekend.

Saturday morning, we met at Spangles, in Park City, and rode to Halstead for a parade.  After the parade, we rode to

Sedgwick for lunch at Cye's.  A vist to Cowtown, in Wichita, was scheduled for the afternoon and several went and had

a good time.  Others headed for air conditioning and a rest.  Saturday evening, we met at OJ Watson Park for a picnic.

Larry and Darlene Adams Provided and cooked the meats while the rest of the OPT members provided side dishes and

desserts.  We were supposed to have an evening ride through Old Town and stop by the Keeper Of The Plains.  However,

Mother Nature intervened and we didn't do the ride.

Sunday morning we met at Braums, in Park City, for breakfast and a discussion of how the weekend had gone.  We decided

to do it again next year and have different events.  The typical trike-in is the same events, the same weekend every year.  The

trikeabout would be something different each time.

Coronado Heights Road Trip

                                                        June 5, 2010

A group of 6 people on 4 trikes, met at Spangles in Park City at 10 AM and rode to

Coronado Heights Park which is North of here by Lindsborg.  It was an all day event

and everyone had a great time.

Coronado Heights is a prominent, isolated hill overlooking the Smoky Hill river valley.

It is the last of a row of erosional hills extending to the north which are capped by the

sandstone of the Dakota Formation.  It is 300 feet above the surrounding valley floor,

offering sweeping vistas of the surrounding countryside.  The eroded face of Coronado

Heights reveals a panorama of geological history as well, covering 230 million years of

time.  At its base are gray and red shales that made up the floor of an ancient salt water

sea. At the top is the Dakota Sandstone, a mixture of marine, fresh water and subtropical

fossil material.

Coronado Heights Castle
The castle at Coronado Heights is a local landmark.

The castle at Coronado Heights was constructed by the Works Progress Administration in 1932. They also built the stone picnic sites, restroom, and stone front gate at the park.

We met at Spangles and Dan Seely took the position of Road Captain to lead us to the wildlife park by Goddard.

We ended up with 18 of us present so it was a nice sized group.  Tanganyika is similar to a zoo but here you can

be up close and personal with some of the animals.  Dan and grandson, Max, rode a protesting camel.  Dan asked

about the weight limit and the keeper said it wouldn't matter if it was 5 lbs, the camel would protest.  The facility

is famous for breeding endangered species, especially white tigers, snow leopards, rhinos and penguins to name a

few.  They have done this for years but only recently opened to the public.  Following Tanganyika, we rode to

Braums for ice cream and a short meeting where we discussed the upcoming August weekend.

Hutchinson Salt Mine and Storage Tour

                                  Saturday, April 10, 2010

We met at Park City Spangles at 9:30 AM, called the Salt Mine and got reservations

for the 11:20 AM tour, and headed that direction around 10 AM.  The tour is

a combination walk and dark ride which is very interesting and fun.  The salt

mined here is for road salt.  There are two other salt mines in the area that mine

and process table salt.  The vein of salt goes from Kansas City SW to Albuquerque.

The storage area is used by several companies and includes paper records, movie

films, movie costumes, and more.

                                                                        Shop Day 2010

                                                              Wayne & Sarah Eck's Home

Shop Day at Wayne and Sarah Eck's turned out to be a great day to trike and so there was a great turnout.

There was enough food carried in to feed everyone at least 3 times so if anyone went away hungry there was

something wrong with them.  Tables were set up in the shop and all the food was served there.  There was

a little tinkering in the shop but once the food started coming, it took precedence.  Following dinner was a

chapter meeting where the main topic of discussion was the August event.  A committee was established to

get things started on making plans.  The ones that lingered after the meeting decided to ride to Braums for

ice cream.
